The Powerhouse is the fundamental of Pilates exercises. It consists of the deep muscles of the abs, pelvic floor and the back. All Pilates movements are generated from the engagement of the Powerhouse with various degrees of intensity depending on the challenge of the exercise. The deep muscles work in tandem with the more superficial muscles, so as to support the back and create strong and fluid movements. The Powerhouse stabilizes the back and the torso so to release excess tension on the back and other areas of the body.
